Welcome to 2nd Sutherland ScoutsYou can join the Scout Unit between 11 to 13 years, though members in the unit are aged between 11 and 14 years. Scouts can start transitioning to Venturers after they turn 14 and before they turn 15. The Scout unit meets on Wednesday evenings during school terms, usually from 6.30 pm to 8.30pm. When we are away from the hall on Adventurous Activities such as bushwalking, paddling or cycling, we may start earlier in the evening. The Scout unit is divided into groups of five to seven members called patrols, led by a Patrol Leader and an Assistant Patrol Leader. The patrols may have certain responsibilities within the unit and during activities. Our Unit also has a youth member appointed to the role of Unit Leader, whose job is to lead certain ceremonies and act as a role model to the whole unit. Scouts are encouraged to lead or assist in leading and planning the weekly actitivies, with the support of our Scout Leaders, and the enthusiastic participation of their peers. Scouts have the opportunity to learn skills, complete projects, serve their community and complete qualifications which may stand alone as achievements, or form part of the pathway towards earning the Australian Scout Award (ASA).
