You can join the Venturer Unit between 14 to 17 years, though members in the unit are aged up to 18 years. Venturers can start transitioning to Rovers when they are close to turning 18 (although may only join Rovers on or after turning 18).
Members may remain in the Venturer Unit until they turn 18 (with a Working With Children's Check and completion of mandatory training for adults) or until they finish school, whichever is later.
The Venturer unit meets on Tuesday evenings during school terms, usually from 7.30 pm to 9.30pm. When we are away from the hall on Adventurous Activities such as bushwalking, paddling or cycling, we may start earlier in the evening.
The Venturer unit does not arrange its members into regular patrols, although may form Project Patrols for particular purposes. The Venturer Unit is governed by a Unit Council. The Council decides on officer roles for various responsibilities, elected by the unit twice a year. Our Unit elects one or more youth members in the role of Unit Leader. The Unit Leader's job is to lead certain ceremonies, to act as a role model to the unit, and to provide leadership to the whole unit.
